Russian president’s phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart – In Moscow’s announcement there is not the slightest mention of weapons
The Russian president Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Ibrahim Raisiwith the two leaders emphasizing the deepening of political, commercial and economic cooperation between the two countries, the Kremlin said in a statement today.
The statement did not specify when the phone call took place and made no mention of Iranian arms supplies to Moscow. Russia has stepped up efforts to build ties with the Islamic Republic and other non-Western countries since it invaded Ukraine on February 24.
“A number of topical issues on the bilateral agenda were discussed, with an emphasis on further strengthening cooperation in the political, trade and economic fields, including in the field of transport and logistics”reported it Kremlin.
On Wednesday a senior Russian security official met with Iranian leaders in Tehran and the two countries pledged closer ties.
The visit took place while Ukraine and the West accuse Russia of using Iranian drones to strike Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Iran claims it sent Russia a small number of drones before the war began. Last month, two senior Iranian officials and two Iranian diplomats told Reuters that Iran had promised to provide Russia with surface-to-surface missiles.
