The Hunter family’s daughter Freya, 12, suffers from cerebral palsy and needs breathing support.

She proved to be a great actress, but also a great person Kate Winslet, which donated £17,000 (€19,400) to a mother who couldn’t pay the ‘bloated electricity bill’ to keep her daughter’s mechanical support running.

THE Caroline Hunter was warned by Clackmannanshire Local Council in Scotland that her bill could be too high.

The Hunter family’s daughter Freya, 12, suffers from cerebral palsy and needs breathing support.

Ms Hunter said she was shocked when the British Titanic actress stepped in after hearing about the struggle she is facing on BBC Scotland.

Winslet donated £17,000 to the family’s GoFundMe page and contacted Ms Hunter.

The emotionally charged mother, 49, said: “Our journey as a family has been very traumatic and I feel like I can’t take it anymore at this point in my life.

“When I heard about the money, I burst into tears – I thought it wasn’t even true. I’m still wondering… is this really happening?’

The Hunter family need £6,500 a year to run the 12-year-old’s mechanical support and heat their home.

Ms Hunter is also concerned potential winter blackouts if natural gas cuts – a result of Russia’s war in Ukraine – could jeopardize Freya’s care.

The family needs help from at least two NHS (British NHS) nurses or SDS (social care staff).

For the past few months Freya’s room was the only one that was heated, but her mother said the cuts were a one-way street.
