Charles turns 74 – How he will celebrate his first birthday as King

Although there will be no official celebrations and public appearances, cannons will be fired to mark the king’s birthday in London.

King (now) Charles turns 74 today and will celebrate his first birthday as monarch privately, with family and friends, without public events.

According to the BBC, Charles has only worn the crown for a short time and it is too early in his reign to have made any announcement about whether the King will follow the royals in having a separate official birthday in the summer.

The Royal Guard Band will also play Happy Birthday during the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace at noon.
