Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky joined the celebrations for the retaking of Kherson after months of Russian occupation on a visit to the site on Monday (14).
The port city had been taken over by the enemy army in the early days of the war, in March, and the homonymous region in which it is situated was one of those recently annexed by Vladimir Putin through referendums deemed illegal by the West.
“We are moving forward,” Zelensky told the press after giving a speech to the Armed Forces in front of the government building in the city’s main square. In response to a reporter’s questioning, he further stated that this could be the beginning of the end of the war. “We are ready for peace, across the country,” he said.
