Stoltenberg accused Putin of aiming to ‘leave Ukraine cold and dark this winter’

An attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin was launched by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during a press conference with members of the Dutch government in The Hague, arguing that it is up to Ukraine to decide what terms are acceptable for negotiations to end the war, adding that NATO’s role was to support Kyiv.

Stoltenberg accused Putin that his goal is to “leave Ukraine cold and dark this winter.” Also referring to the withdrawal of Russian forces from Kherson, he said it demonstrates the “incredible courage” of Ukraine’s armed forces.

“We must not make the mistake of underestimating Russia. The Russian armed forces maintain significant capabilities, as well as large numbers of troops, and Russia has demonstrated a willingness to suffer significant casualties. They have also shown extreme brutality,” Stoltenberg said and added: “The coming months will be difficult. Putin’s goal is to leave Ukraine cold and dark this winter,” he said.
