The CIA director was not going to enter into “negotiations of any kind” with the head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) or discuss a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, according to the CNN report. The representative of the US Security Council emphasized that the Ukrainian government had been informed about the meeting in advance, underlining that Washington adheres to the principle “nothing for Ukraine without Ukraine”.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the meeting in Ankara, without mentioning the content of the talks. He claimed that the meeting took place at the initiative of Washington.
