An Israeli official told AFP the attack was carried out by a “drone” similar to “the ones the Iranians sell to Russia to use (in its operations) in Ukraine”.

The US on Wednesday condemned the attack on a tanker that took place yesterday off Oman, which they attributed to Iran, according to a statement from National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

“After reviewing the available information, we are confident that Iran appears to have launched this drone attack,” Sullivan said of the attack, which caused no casualties but “minor property damage” to the tanker, according to with the carrier.

“We are working with our partners and allies to hold Iran accountable and respond appropriately,” the high-ranking official explained.

The Pacific Zircon “was hit by a missile about 150 miles (241 kilometers) off the coast of Oman at around 3:30 p.m. on November 15,” Eastern Pacific Shipping, which is owned by Israeli billionaire Idan ‘Ofer, said in a statement.

An Israeli official told AFP that the attack was carried out by a “drone” similar to “the ones the Iranians sell to Russia to use (in its operations) in Ukraine.”

According to the co-founder of the website TankerTrackers.com, which specializes in marine transportation, the tanker was carrying 42,000 metric tons of diesel, and was bound for Buenos Aires.

The United States and Gulf countries regularly denounce Tehran’s actions in this strategically important maritime zone, a near-exclusive sea route connecting the oil-rich Gulf states to global markets.
