Ukraine: The agreement on grain exports from the Black Sea was extended by 4 months

The Turkish side confirmed the agreement

The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Alexander Kubrakov he announced today that an agreement was reached to extend for 120 days (4 months) the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea.

“This decision was made in Istanbul. The UN and Turkey remain guarantors of the initiative,” Kubrakov noted on Twitter, expressing his satisfaction with a step “important to address the global food crisis.”

On her side Turkey confirmed the extension of the agreement “under the same conditions” that have been in place since Julyas stated by a high-ranking official who wished to remain anonymous.

The initial agreement had been signed in July and had helped avert a global food crisis allowing the export of food and fertilizers from Ukrainian Black Sea ports.

This agreement, which would expire tomorrow, Fridayallowed more than 11 million tons to be exported from Ukrainian ports over four months.

UN: Guterres welcomes extension of agreement

The news was welcomed by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres emphasizing:

“I welcome the agreement of all sides to continue the Black Sea initiative to facilitate safe navigation for grain, food and fertilizer exports from Ukraine,” Guterres said in a statement.

The secretary-general pointed out that the UN is “absolutely committed to removing the obstacles that remain to the export of food and fertilizers from the Russian Federation,” a part of the agreement that Russia considers critical.
