“A basket will be created for the special categories, while we are discussing how the festive basket will be created,” the development minister said
The Minister of Development, Adonis Georgiadis, visited yet another supermarket today, in order, as he said, to reward it for having the lowest value, overall, “household basket” this week of all the other chains.
“To congratulate every great effort. Our goal is for people to find better prices every week. As long as we the consumers choose products from the “basket”, the chains will have an interest every week and their suppliers to reduce the prices and thus we will all earn money”, the minister emphasized.
“Our vulnerable fellow citizens will be able to find basic products at much better prices than before, but the rest of us will also be pushing for prices to go down. That is why we have made the “basket”” added the minister. As he said, the “household basket” may have been mocked at first, but for the third week in a row it is working.
The minister reiterated that “a basket will be created for the special categorieswhile discussing how to create the holiday basket but the 51 categories will not change. And I want to explain why: If the categories overflow, then the ability of the chains to push prices down will be reduced. We want to create a space where chains will compare with each other and do their best to drop prices every week.”
Mr. Georgiadis even warned the chains that want to raise prices that he will make sure to do the reverse advertising. “This week all the chains have reduced prices. All chains put back. The prices we saw this week give us great joy” concluded the minister.
