Russia will wait until an assessment of the extent of damage to the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines is completed before deciding whether or not to proceed with any repairs, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Swedish investigators announced earlier today that they had found traces of explosives in the damaged pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2, which confirms that there was sabotage.
“The analyzes carried out showed traces of explosives on several foreign objects that were found,” prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist, who is in charge of the preliminary investigation into the destruction of the pipelines in Sweden, said in a statement.
“During the investigations at the scene of the incident carried out on the spot in the Baltic Sea, extensive seizures of objects have been made and the area has been carefully inventoried.
» The analyzes performed now show traces of explosives on several of the items found. Advanced analysis work is continuing to enable us to draw safer conclusions about the incident,” said a Swedish prosecutor.
These findings, near pipeline damage, they confirmed that sabotage had taken placethey stated.
The Swedish and Danish authorities are investigating four holes in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelineswhich connect Russia and Germany across the Baltic Sea and have become a flashpoint in the Ukraine crisis.
The attacks on the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines had targeted the Kremlin, which in turn blamed the West.
Both the Nord Stream I and 2 pipelines, built to carry Russian gas to Germany, were damaged in the Baltic Sea.
The Swedish Security Service had said that underwater explosions in September caused extensive damage to pipelines in international waters off Sweden and Denmark.
The pipelines ruptured, sending large amounts of methane gas into the air.
