An aircraft crashed today in a district of the city of Medellin, in northwestern Colombiadragging its eight occupants to their deaths.
“A plane crash occurred in the Belen Rosales district”Daniel Quintero, mayor of Medellin, said in a tweet.
The aircraft crashed into a house, the top floor of which was almost completely destroyed, as shown in images that have seen the light of day. Another video posted on social media showed thick black smoke billowing over houses, while sirens of fire engines and ambulances could be heard rushing to the crash site.

According to Mayor Quintero, it is a twin-engine Piper that was operating a flight between Medellín and the city of Pizarro in the province of Choco. The pilot reported mechanical failure shortly after takeoff and did not return to Olaya Herrera, one of the two airports in the city of Medellin.
In the fatal Piper there were a total of eight people on board: the two pilots and six passengers.
Capital of the mountainous province of Antioquia, Medellin is Colombia’s second largest city and is located in the heart of the Amburra Valley.
In 2016 the plane carrying Brazilian soccer team Chapecoense crashed into a mountain range near the city of Medellin, killing 71 of the 77 people on board, including 16 soccer players.
