Kurds may have been given ‘green light’ to carry out terror attack in Istanbul – Russian diplomat

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which, according to Turkish authorities, is behind the terrorist attack in Istanbul, may have been given a “green light” to carry out the attack, Russia’s special presidential envoy for Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, said Wednesday after the 19th international summit on Syria in Astana.

“We cannot say that these terrorist attacks, which, as our Turkish partners have told us, should be attributed to the PKK, were some kind of initiative on the part of this organization. In all probability, some “green light” was given to them,” said the Russian diplomat.

Lavrentiev stressed that the Kurdish solution would be an important factor “that could help stabilize the situation in the entire region.”

The explosion on Istiklal Street in Istanbul on November 13 killed six people and injured more than 80. According to Turkish authorities, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and its Syrian branch (People’s Defense Units) were behind the attack.
