According to the publication, there are fears that the number of dead may reach eight.

Twelve people, including a family of three with a newborn baby and a 25-year-old woman, are missing after the landslide that occurred on the island Ischia of Lower Italy, in the district of Naples.

The island has been blocked off due to the bad weather and since yesterday, due to the extreme weather conditions, the mayor has kept the schools closed. According to the newspaper Il Messaggerothe final tally may reach as many as eight dead.

Due to the non-stop rain, floods and landslides were caused and the current swept a number of cars into the sea. Many inhabitants of the island, due to the mud that has accumulated, cannot leave their homes and a while ago a hotel was evacuated, with thirty tourists.

A man, who had been swept away by the mud, was pulled out and saved, while men and earthmoving machines of the Fire Department are arriving on the island from Naples.

Electricity has been cut in many areas of Ischia and local authorities have asked residents to avoid all movement due to possible new extreme weather conditions.
