The assailants may have beaten him with a hammer, a police source said
A 14-year-old boy was killed on the night of Saturday into Sunday during violent clashes between youths from two communities near Versailles, southwest of Paris.
Moulins a Van’s gym in Quannier was hosting a mixed martial arts night. The victim, who came from Morpa, a neighboring town of 17,000, was attending what witnesses described as a “family” event with his father, involving parents and children.
According to the first evidence of the investigation, when the event ended, around midnight, two rival groups of young people clashed outside the building: one from the Fries district of Morpas and the other from Marchand of Quannier.
The two towns, which are generally considered quiet – apart from some of their “sensitive” districts – are located on the edge of the forest, at a distance of about 15 kilometers from the famous Palace of Versailles.
The victim was hit on the head, according to the Versailles prosecutor’s office. The assailants may have beaten him with a hammer, a police source said.
Another teenager from Morpa, aged 16, was slightly injured in the head.
“There is a ‘historical’ rivalry between the youths of the two cities, but this has never led to anything so violent,” commented a source from the municipality of Quannier, a town of 5,000 inhabitants. “We are a quiet city, the crime rate is very low,” he added.
No suspects have been arrested so far.
