Michael Poiker thought he was going to be arrested by the three police officers who had surrounded him while he was broadcasting. “They’re taking me to the police station after this,” he said, looking at the camera.
A correspondent for Switzerland’s national broadcaster RTS was approached by Chinese police while giving his online response to the protests in China that have erupted against the country’s strict policy to contain COVID.
Michael Poiker thought that he would be arrested by the three police officers who had surrounded him while he was broadcasting. “They’re taking me to the police station after this,” he said, looking at the camera.
The TV station later reported that Poiker said he was a journalist and then the officers left without arresting him or his cameraman.
8/8 Coupled with the draconian policy of zero-Covid, these conditions have led to the departure or non-renewal of several correspondent posts. La Chine s’isole, devient un boite noire. C’est regrettable et personne ne ressort gagnant de pareille situation.
