“When there is VIOLENCE where you expect LOVE”
With an event, which will take place on Monday, November 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cinema “M. Merkouri” (Anat. Romylias 123) the Municipality of Glyfada celebrates the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
This is a phenomenon that has worsened dramatically through the confinement conditions due to coronavirus and is now characterized as a “global pandemic”.
According to research and official data, one in four Greek women and one in three women worldwide is a victim of abuse during her lifetime.
Escalating abusive behavior begins with verbal harassment, emotional-mental-physical abuse and in some cases reaches murder, “femicide”, the most extreme form of gender-based violence.
In December 1991, the UN General Assembly declared November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with the aim of highlighting this major issue.
In Glyfada, this international day is celebrated, with an event organized by the Social Service of the Municipality with the aim of raising the awareness of our fellow citizens and providing them with valid and thorough information, by representatives of organizations that work on the prevention and treatment of the phenomenon of violence against women. Because gender-based violence is not tolerated, it is not a private matter and concerns us all.
The event will be opened by the Mayor of Glyfada, George Papanikolaou. The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Maria Syregela, will address a greeting.
Police Officer II Nikolaos-Apostolos Vassiliou will speak, Dr. of Clinical Psychology Efrosyne Spanea and the artist, founder of the Movement for the prevention and combating of gender-based violence “strong me” Aspasia Theophilou.
The person responsible for the action is the Appointed Municipal Councilor for Social Care and Solidarity, psychologist Lena Denaxa, who will coordinate the event with the assistance of the members of the scientific team of the Social Service of the Municipality of Glyfada, Georgia Tsioli and Irida Panagiotopoulou.
