Afghanistan: Dozens of women take to the streets of Kabul – Protest against exclusion from education – work

Dozens of Afghans demonstrated in Kabul today, demanding their right to education, work and political representation, in a demonstration authorized by the Taliban.

“Food, careers, freedom!” Shouted the crowd, while some of the participants in the mobilization held banners with slogans in favor of women’s access to political positions.

Although the demonstrations are banned by the new Afghan government, the authorities gave the “green light” for the organization of this march, which took place despite the low temperatures that prevail, after the first snowfall, in the country.

Some women held banners depicting protests by the Taliban themselves, who complained that the international community had “frozen” billions of dollars in aid.

The Taliban, which regained power in mid-August, pledged to rule with less brutality than their first government in the 1990s, but women have been largely excluded from public administration and access to secondary education.

Although they were given the right to protest, some protesters confirmed that they continue to fear the new leadership of the country.

“Fear remains, but we can not live in fear. “We have to fight our fear,” said Sahira Kohistan, a 28-year-old Afghan woman who took part in the protest.
