Food prices in Britain rose in November at a record pace for the country, with particularly high increases in the cost of meat, eggs, dairy and coffee.
Specifically, food inflation for the month ending reached 12.4%, according to the British Retail Consortium. In October the corresponding percentage was 11.6%
According to the Consortium, the large increases are due to the high cost of energy, feed and transport.
Consortium chief Helen Dickinson said winter was looking “increasingly bleak” for many citizens as inflationary pressures on food appeared to continue “unabated”.
The same newer survey shows that overall product prices in UK retailers rose by 7.4% in November. This is the fastest price increase in a month since such data began to be kept in 2005.
