Beijing speaks of “gross interference” in China’s internal affairs and a “flagrant violation” of the One China principle

The visit of a British parliamentary committee to Taiwan is a “blatant violation” of the One China principle and a “gross interference” in China’s internal affairs, a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Britain said today.

THE China claims that Taiwan is part of Chinese territory. Taiwan’s government rejects claims of Chinese sovereignty.

The committee of British MPs said it would meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and other senior officials during its visit.

“The Chinese side urges the British side to abide by its commitment, stop any actions that violate the One China principle, and stop interfering in China’s internal affairs,” the spokesman said in a statement posted on Twitter.

“Her movements British side that undermine China’s interests will be met with strong responses from the Chinese side.”
