Moscow is looting the Ukrainian “gold”. According to the US space agency NASA, Russia this year harvested Ukrainian grain worth about a billion dollars.

According to the agency’s food security and agriculture program, NASA Harvest, 5.8 million tons of grain were harvested in Ukrainian fields “not under Ukrainian control.”

The agency’s research, in collaboration with its various partners, was based on satellite imagery and modelling.

In total, the harvest from the Ukrainian territory this year was about 26.6 million tons of grainan amount far greater than predicted, according to the scientists involved in the research.

While this harvest is less than 2021’s record 33 million tonnes, it is close to the five-year average of 27.9 million tonnes.

But Ukraine does not have access to 22% of this quantityin the eastern part of the country, due to the invasion of the Russian army on February 24 and the ongoing war.

Last winter’s seed harvest reached 88% in areas not controlled by the Ukrainian government, according to NASA. The unharvested fields are mainly along the fronts.
