The majority of Germans have significantly changed their attitude to the use of heating at home
One in ten Germans did not use any heating at all by the end of November, while the majority of the rest have significantly changed their attitude to using heating at home.
According to a survey by the YouGov institute on behalf of the German News Agency (dpa), 10% of Germans had not turned on any heating at home, while from the rest, 68% said they heat their home less compared to the same time last year, due to the increase in energy prices and 50% that they use “much less heating”.
Many heating systems run on fossil fuels, such as oil or natural gas, which burden the environment. However, this does not seem to be a decisive argument for the respondents who stated that they are saving mainly because of the crisis. According to the survey results, only 6% would like to protect the climate by heating their home less. 56% try to save money, 20% because they think it’s not that cold and 15% because they want to contribute to the effort to save energy.
