Telephone communication with the US National Security Adviser Jane Sullivan had the representative of the Turkish Presidency, ambassador Ibrahim Kalin in which “Turkey’s expectations were conveyed regarding the unconditional completion of the approval process of the F-16 procurement and modernization request by the US Congress.”

The announcement of the Turkish presidency, as broadcast from Istanbul by SKAI correspondent Manolis Kostidis, also states:

“During the phone call, in addition to bilateral political and economic relations, global and regional issues such as cooperation in the defense industry were discussed, the Russia-Ukraine war, the Eastern Mediterranean, the accession processes of Sweden and Finland to NATO, the Syria, Iraq and the fight against terrorism.

After expressing satisfaction at the leaders’ meeting held in Bali on the sidelines of the G20, it was agreed to continue dialogue and consultations on global and regional issues. They pledged that as two NATO allies, Turkey and the United States should focus on strategic priorities and common interests.

During the meeting, where the importance of continued cooperation in the field of defense industry was emphasized, Turkey’s expectations for the unconditional completion of the approval process of the F-16 procurement and modernization request by the US Congress were conveyed.

It was emphasized that the prolongation and spread of the war in Ukraine deepened the crisis on a global scale, that the war must be ended and the negotiation table reset. It was reported that Turkey is resolutely pursuing its diplomatic initiatives that could pave the way for a ceasefire, including a prisoner exchange and a grain deal.

It was highlighted that the PKK/PYD/YPG terrorist organizations, which pose a threat to our national security, were targeted in Turkey’s operations in Syria and Iraq. It was recalled that Turkey, which was exposed to terrorist attacks, has the right to self-defense according to Article 51 of the UN Convention. It was emphasized that Turkey is determined to eliminate all kinds of terrorist risks and threats.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress made by Finland and Sweden, it was noted that all the commitments of the Tripartite Agreement should be fulfilled.”
