Mônica Bergamo: Women diplomats see Itamaraty’s second post as a consolation prize

The decision to hand over the Itamaraty general secretariat to a woman, Ambassador Maria Laura da Rocha, is being seen as a consolation prize by Brazilian diplomats who mobilized for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to nominate a woman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The government, to assuage the opposition, should also appoint ambassadors for strategic positions abroad.

LONG WAIT
