Mônica Bergamo: Lula should nominate a woman to lead Health

by

President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has already communicated to close allies that he intends to nominate, for the Ministry of Health, a person who made a career in the public sector. He believes that private sector professionals would not have the ideal profile, at this moment, for the mission of rebuilding the portfolio policies that would have been abandoned in the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), especially in the period in which it was commanded by the military. And precisely at a time when the government will be under maximum pressure.

CALIBRATION

According to a member of Lula’s transition team, the situation is bleak, and the ideal thing is for people who are familiar with the state machine to assume command of strategic portfolios such as Health and Education at this time.

CALIBRATION 2

Two women are among the most quoted for Health: the president of Fiocruz (Oswaldo Cruz Foundation), Nísia Trindade Lima, and the president of the Brazilian Center for Health Studies, Lúcia Souto. Former sister-in-law of Senator Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), she is a physician and former state deputy from Rio de Janeiro.

THEIR TURN

When disclosing, on Friday (9), his five prime ministers, Lula stated that in his next advertisements he will have several women on stage.

TIME 2

Another woman who should assume an important portfolio is the governor of Ceará, Izolda Cela (without party), quoted for the Ministry of Education.

READY LIST

Silvio de Almeida (Human Rights) and federal deputy Alexandre Padilha (PT-SP) may also be on the next list of ministers, in the political articulation.

HOW BORING

The decision to hand over the secretary general of the Itamaraty to a woman is being seen as a consolation prize by Brazilian diplomats who mobilized for Lula to nominate a woman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

KEY

The government, to assuage the opposition, should also appoint ambassadors for strategic positions abroad.

OPEN CURTAINS
