According to the BX1 network, the Brussels region is set to ban outdoor heaters across the Belgian capital from January 2023. In an attempt to calm business concerns about potential customer loss, local authorities have introduced a pilot program that involves distributing hundreds of blankets to restaurants and bars in the area.
“By handing out blankets we offer a transitional period [πριν από τον Ιανουάριο] and we suggest other ways to stay warm in winter than with heaters,” said Brussels Economic Affairs Officer Fabian Megren, adding that “heaters are big energy consumers, expensive for owners and harmful to the environment.”
Although their high cost has already led many restaurant and bar owners to voluntarily turn off their outdoor heaters, many are wary of whether banning them will have a positive impact.
