Turkish Foreign Ministry: We reject the EU’s unfair claims against our country

by

In a statement, the Turks call the EU’s claims about their stance on the Ukraine war unfair

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey with its announcement reacts to the resolutions approved by the European Union in the Council of General Affairs, regarding the attitude of the neighboring country towards Russia regarding the war with Ukraine.

In detail, as reported by the SKAI correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidisthe announcement of the Turkish Foreign Ministry states:

“The section on our country of the resolutions adopted by the European Union (EU) in the General Affairs Council reveals once again the narrow-minded and biased view of the EU towards Turkey.

Such decisions, in which the common interests of the EU are sacrificed to the interests of certain member states, neither contribute to Turkey-EU relations nor create a constructive agenda.

Unfortunately, with this approach, the EU has proven again that it cannot correctly read the change in the international system.

We completely reject the EU’s unfair democracy, rule of law and human rights claims against our country.

In addition, we do not accept the unfortunate statements of the EU which cannot go beyond the representation of the twin Greece-Greek Cypriots for the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus.

The decision ignored Turkey’s diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine and its strong support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, but Turkey’s approach to the issue should not be limited solely to not participating in EU sanctions and the Turkish authority not to engage in unilateral sanctions that would deliberately neutralize the sanctions. We are surprised to see it presented this way.

Is clear that our country’s trade and economic relations with Russia are not of a nature to render sanctions ineffective and that our continued dialogue with Russia is also important in terms of minimizing the negative effects of the waras seen in the examples of the grain deal and the prisoner exchange.

It is also a deliberate approach not to take into account our country’s firm stance that it will not allow sanctions to be violated, although it is not part of the sanctions.

For Turkey to take such EU decisions seriously, the EU must see Turkey as a candidate country conducting accession negotiations and show the necessary political will for this.”
