18 tornadoes were reported in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi from Tuesday night through the early hours of Wednesday morning
A woman and her young son were killed overnight Tuesday into Wednesday when a tornado ripped through a rural area in northwest Louisiana, one of dozens that swept through the region.
Rescuers found the baby boy dead late Tuesday night in a forest near the family’s damaged home in Kithvol, a village 300 inhabitants, said Canto Parish Sheriff. He and his mother were found dead a short time later, under debris, on a road above the home, Sheriff Steve Prator said. A man has been taken to a local hospital but the seriousness of his injuries was not specified.
“Many buildings were damaged. Trees and power lines were down,” the sheriff added.
Eighteen tornadoes were reported in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi from Tuesday night through the early hours of Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). A blizzard has been battering the central US for the past two days, leaving many roads in the upper Great Plains and Midwest impassable due to snow. Most schools in these areas remained closed.
