The landslide occurred at around 03:00 (local time; yesterday Thursday at 21:00 Greek time) on the side of the road near a farm that offers camping space.
The director of the fire department, Norazam Khamis, said earlier that 31 people were rescued.
Selangor, by comparison Malaysia’s richest state, has experienced landslides in the past, often attributed to deforestation. Malaysia is going through the rainy season, but there had been no rainfall before the landslide.
