At least eight people were killed and 23 wounded in shelling by the Ukrainian army against the Russian-controlled province of Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, the Russian news agency TASS reported today, citing a source from the emergency services.

The shelling destroyed a building in the village of Landrativka and some people are trapped in the rubble, TASS added.

Russian-backed officials representing Luhansk at the Joint Control and Coordination Center — a ceasefire monitoring body set up to monitor the truce between pro-Russian Ukrainian separatists and Ukrainian forces after 2014 — said Ukraine fired US-made HIMARS missiles against Landrativka at 04:10 this morning, local and Greek time.

Besides, the head of the “people’s militia” of Luhansk wrote on his Telegram account that there are casualties among civilians after the shelling of the city of Svatove by the Ukrainian army this morning. He did not provide any other information about the incident.
