‘Party Hard’: British MPs travel abroad for sex tourism at public expense, Politico says

Some British MPs are taking advantage of their position and using parliamentary trips abroad as an opportunity for … sex tourism and binge drinking, according to colleagues, diplomats and parliamentary officials who spoke to POLITICO.

Examples are typical. A former Conservative MP, now a member of the House of Lords, asked his hosts for directions to the … nearest brothel when he traveled to Southeast Asia on a visit with an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), according to another MP who was present.

Another Tory MP, and former minister, … went nowhere, despite his colleagues returning to Britain to show “an interest in [τοπικές] women,” said two of his former colleagues.

“He was interested in beautiful young girls,” said a British MP. “He usually stayed after these visits and associated with young women in the place in question.”

Another senior Labor MP showed sympathy for “girls from Russia” during trips abroad, according to a foreign diplomat, who said local officials felt powerless to intervene because they were concerned “about maintaining their influence at Westminster”.

As part of an ongoing investigation, POLITICO spoke to more than a dozen government officials and lawmakers in the UK and abroad who verified reports of misconduct (sex, binge drinking) by some of their colleagues on such trips.

Many MPs argued that while some colleagues showed a genuine interest in improving relations with these countries, others treated these trips with “party” logic.

Indeed, local officials told POLITICO that some British MPs had attended parties hosted by diplomatic representatives in which they “supplied” young men and women for the purpose of sexual activity.
