Over 70 Missile Attacks in 24 Hours by Russian Forces – Nine Energy Units Damaged
Ukraine’s energy grid management company announced today that it will take longer to restore the national grid and power supply compared to previous Russian missile attacks.
After Russia launched more than 70 missiles against Ukraine today, the grid operator said: “Given that this is already the ninth wave of missile attacks against energy facilities, the restoration of energy supply may take longer than before ».
“Priority will be given to critical infrastructure facilities: hospitals, water supply infrastructure, heating infrastructure and sewage treatment plants,” according to the announcement.
The country’s Energy Minister German Galushenko said on state television that nine Ukrainian energy plants were damaged today in Russia’s latest missile attacks on critical infrastructure. “What we are already seeing is damage to about nine production facilities. Now we are still assessing the damage,” he said.
Ukraine’s energy consumption dropped by more than 50% today after the Russian missile attacks, according to a statement from the energy network management company Ukrenergo. A senior Ukrainian official said earlier that there were emergency power outages across the country following the Russian strikes.
The Kyiv metro will remain closed throughout the day due to power outages caused by a new wave of Russian shelling this morning.
“Due to damage to the power system and emergency power outages, there will be no subway trains until the end of the day,” the city’s administration said on Telegram.
