Mr Shoigu “traveled by air to areas where troops are deployed” and “checked advanced positions of Russian units in the zone of the special military operation”, the Defense Ministry said via Telegram
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has inspected units of the country’s army involved in what the Kremlin has dubbed a “special military operation” in Ukraine, his services said.
Mr. Shoigu “traveled by air to areas where troops are deployed” and “checked advanced positions of Russian units in the zone of the special military operation,” the Defense Ministry said via Telegram.
Moscow ordered the invasion on February 24, to “demilitarize” and “de-Naziize” Ukraine. Kyiv and its allies in the West denounce the “unprovoked” and “conquering” war.
According to the announcement of his services, Defense Minister Shoigu spoke with soldiers “on the front line” and in a “command center”.
It is not specified when he made the visit and whether Sergei Shoigu actually went to Ukraine.
A short video accompanying the announcement shows the Russian Defense Minister in a military helicopter and empty lands.
The announcement came a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the leadership of the armed forces and Defense Minister Shoigu to discuss proposals for the war in Ukraine.
The armed conflict, the deadliest on European soil since World War II, has claimed tens of thousands of lives, uprooted millions and turned entire cities into piles of rubble.
