At least seven members of the Iraqi federal policeincluding an officer, were killed today near the Kirkuk in the north of the country, in an attack attributed to Islamic State (IS) jihadists against the vehicle carrying them, two police sources told AFP.
The bomb explosion was followed by a “direct attack with light weapons” near the village Halal al-Matar, outside Kirkuk, a federal police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity told AFP, attributing the ambush to Islamic State, which has yet to claim responsibility. “One attacker was killed and we are looking for the others,” he said, adding that two more policemen were injured.
