Zelensky will also address the Congress, while he will also have bilateral meetings.
The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky will meet today at the White House with US President Joe Biden, before addressing the US Congress, US presidential spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre confirmed in a press release.
On the occasion of Mr. Zelensky’s first trip abroad since the outbreak of war, Ms. Jean-Pierre announced that the US president would announce new, “significant” aid to the Ukrainian military, which would include, according to senior US official, at least one array of the advanced US Patriot anti-aircraft system.
The visit confirms that the US will continue to support Ukraine, where Russia’s military invaded on February 24, “for as long as necessary”, Ms Jean-Pierre stressed.
Mr. Zelenskiy will also hold a series of bilateral meetings.
“On my way to the US to strengthen Ukraine’s resilience and defense capabilities,” he tweeted.
On my way to the US to strengthen resilience and defense capabilities of 🇺🇦. In particular, @POTUS and I will discuss cooperation between 🇺🇦 and 🇺🇸. I will also have a speech at the Congress and a number of bilateral meetings.

The new aid package to Ukraine is almost $2 billion.
In terms of total spending on direct military support since the beginning of the conflict, the US has the most of any other country.
