The Ministry of Energy of Cyprus announced the existence of a new natural gas field. As the relevant announcement states, the deposit was identified by the consortium of ENI-TOTAL companies in plot 6 of the Cypriot EEZ and ranges between 2 and 3 trillion cubic feet.

The following is the official announcement of the Cyprus Ministry of Energy:

The Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry announces that the work of the “Zeus-1” exploratory well has been successfully and safely completed, within Block 6 of the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus, by the joint venture of Eni Cyprus Limited (Operator) and TotalEnergies EP Cyprus BV

The drilling, which was carried out by the drilling ship “Tungsten Explorer” at a distance of 162 kilometers from the coast of Cyprus, 5 kilometers west of the “Cronos-1” drilling and at a water depth of 2,300 meters, demonstrated the existence of a column of pure natural gas 105 meters, with quantities that, according to preliminary estimates, amount to a total of 2 to 3 trillion cubic feet (Tcf).

The “Zeus-1” discovery, the third in a row by the licensed consortium in Block 6, after “Calypso-1” and “Cronos-1”, has also been successfully tested in terms of its quality technical characteristics and confirms again the promising prospects of the region.

Already, the Ministry of Energy and a consortium are considering ways to accelerate and optimally utilize the discoveries in Block 6 of the EEZ of Cyprus, with the results of the new drilling being incorporated, by Eni and TotalEnergies, into the studies they are conducting for this very purpose.
