Activists against climate change they sawed today the top of the Christmas tree that has been erected in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

Activists from the organization Letzte Generation (Last Generation) used a hydraulic lifting machine to reach the top of the 15-meter-tall decorated fir tree in one of Berlin’s most historic spots.

Two members of the organization, who were on the platform of the lifting machine, unfurled a banner that read: “This is only the top of the Christmas Tree.”

Subsequently they used a saw to cut the top of the tree.

“So far we are only seeing the tip of the underlying disaster in Germany,” activist Lily Gomes said in a statement.

“While the whole of Germany spends this week picking up the best gifts from the biggest stores, others are wondering where they will find water to drink after droughts and floods have destroyed their crops.”

Gomes continued: “The climate collapse in Germany is on the verge and the federal government is making no effort to protect us.”

The police announced that they were on the scene and taking measures against the protesters, but did not give further details.

Since the beginning of the year, the organization Letzte Generation blocks streets in Berlin and other major cities asking the government to radically change its policy on the issue of climate change.

Activists of the organization have also held protest events in museums, stadiums, ministries and airports.

German political officials have expressed the disapproval of these protests and Chancellor Olaf Solz has called on the activists to show rather “a little creativity”.
