It is, as he said, an award that belongs to a “real hero, a real captain”
A medal belonging to the so-called “captain” of the Ukrainian army, Volodymyr Zelensky, was presented to US President Joe Biden by the President of Ukraine upon his arrival at the White House.
Zelensky thanked Biden and the US Congress for their support and expressed his appreciation to the American people.
“Thank you very much, Mr. President. Of course I thank the bipartisan support, I thank the Congress, and I thank the ordinary people, all the way down to your own people, the American people. I really appreciate it,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
He then presented Biden with the medal, which he said was given by a captain – a “captain” of the Ukrainian army fighting in the Donbass region.
“A guy who is a real hero, a real captain asked me to give you his award and asked me to give it to President Biden,” Zelenskiy said. “He is very brave and he told me give it to the very brave President and I want to give it to you, this is a cross that captures military merit” he added.
Biden thanked Zelensky and said in turn that in return he would send the Ukrainian “captain” a US medal of honor.
“It’s not a necessity, but I really appreciate it, thank you,” Biden said for his part. “Well, we have a tradition here, and I’ll give it to him. My son fought in Iraq, they have what they call a medal of honor. Have you seen these coins we get on the battlefield? I’ll make sure he gets one of those. Thank you,” concluded the US president.
