Japan: Over 200,000 coronavirus cases – 296 deaths in 24 hours

The number of confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 in Japan broke the barrier of 200,000 in 24 hoursfor the first time since August 25, while in the same period 296 patients succumbed due to complications of COVID-19, as the archipelago has been faced with the so-called eighth wave of the new coronavirus pandemic.

They were confirmed 206,943 cases, up geometrically from last Wednesday’s 16,000. Tokyo recorded over twenty thousand (21,186 to be exact) for the second day in a row, with the number rising for the sixteenth straight 24 hours; it was at 2,374 last Wednesday.

The number of patients hospitalized in intensive care units (ICU) increased by 37 to 530.

The official tally of victims of the new coronavirus pandemic in the archipelago has reached 54,026 deaths out of a total of 27.58 million infections, according to data from the Japanese Ministry of Health.
