Christmas message of Pope Francis: Who hears the voice of the newborn Jesus?

“Jesus Christ also represents the way of peace. By birth, passion, death and resurrection, he opened the way from a world closed and oppressed by hostility and war, to one open, free to live brotherhood and peace. Let’s follow this path!”, emphasized Pope Francis, speaking a while ago to the gathered believers, in St. Peter’s Square.

The pontiff, at the same time, in his Christmas message, referred “to Ukraineand to the Ukrainian brothers who are living this Christmas in the dark, in the cold, or far from their homes” and asked those who have the necessary authority to act “to silence the guns and end this senseless war immediately”.

“Unfortunately, some people prefer to obey other justices, which are related to worldly logics. But the voice of the newborn Jesus, who hears it? asked Francis.

The pope also emphasized that there is a “drought of peace” in many other regions, “in other parts of the planet where the third, this, world war is going on.”

He referred to the Holy Land, imploring the Lord to be able to resume dialogue between Palestinians and Israelis, to the ongoing conflicts in the Sahel, to the need for a lasting ceasefire in Yemen, while asking for reconciliation to be achieved in Myanmar and Iran.

“On this day of Christmas, when we like to meet again around the full table, let us keep our eyes fixed on Bethlehem, which means “house of bread” and let us think of all the people who are hungry – especially the children – while every day a huge amount of food is wasted and resources are spent to buy weapons”, the pope underlined.
