Ukraine claims tanks, aircraft and warships from the West

In an interview with the German Agency, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Melnyk rejected any possibility of starting negotiations with Russia, calling the Kremlin’s assurance that it is willing to discuss a “bluff”.

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Melnyk demanded the West give the Western-built country fighter jets, warships and tanks during an interview with the German news agency, following the US commitment to send Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.

Kyiv is grateful for Washington’s “brave” decision, Mr Melnik said. “But it’s clear: there are still many taboos to be broken. We urgently need Western tanks, fighter jets, warships, multiple missile launchers, ammunition.”

This is his only “wish for Christmas,” said the former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany.

Mr. Melnik warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing his country’s military and citizens for a long war and is mobilizing all available resources.

“Ukrainians are ready to fight for the liberation of their homeland, including Crimea, as long as we breathe,” and that “regardless of what our partners do,” he continued.

The deputy foreign minister rejected any possibility of negotiations with Russia, calling the Kremlin’s assurance that it was willing to discuss a “bluff.”

He insisted that Kyiv would not cede any part of Ukrainian territory, something “unacceptable”, which “will never happen”.
