Ukraine says Russia is ‘bringing large supplies’ and warns of ‘tough’ fighting near Kreminna, north-west of Luhansk

Air raid sirens continued to sound across Kyiv on Tuesday as residents once again fled to shelters for protection.

Russia is preparing for “tough” battles in Kreminna

According to Ukraine, Russia is “bringing large supplies” and warns of “tough” fighting near Kreminna, northwest of Luhansk.

Heavy fighting is already taking place near Kreminna, according to the head of the Luhansk regional military command, Serhiy Haidai, but more is expected. Specifically, fighting is taking place around high ground near Kreminna in Luhansk region, as well as around Bakhmut and Avdiivka in Donetsk, a Ukrainian military analyst said.

“The Russian occupation troops managed to build a very strong defense in a month, maybe less. They bring a huge amount of supplies and equipment there. They are constantly renewing their powers.

He pointed out that the Russian forces suffered a large number of casualties, but they are still bringing in new personnel, “because they understand that if they lose Kreminna, in principle, the whole line of defense will collapse.”

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky in a speech said that the situation in Mahmut, Kreminna and other regions in Donbass is “difficult and painful”.

Fears of a Russian attack on the energy grid on New Year’s Eve

Fears that Russian forces may launch a large-scale attack on Ukraine’s energy grid on New Year’s Eve, using missiles in particular, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushenko said.

“The Russians have not given up their attacks on our energy grid,” Mr Halushenko told Ukrainian television. “And since they are targeting specific dates, New Year’s may be one of those dates that they will try to cause damage to our energy grid,” he added.

As he noted, the energy infrastructure is being repaired as quickly as possible so that Ukrainians can celebrate the New Year without problems, but this will become possible only if there are no new Russian strikes.
