US considers new travel restrictions amid concern over ‘lack of transparent data’ from Beijing
The US government is considering the possibility of imposing new measures on travelers arriving in the country from China, while Beijing announced that it will end from January 8 the mandatory quarantine for those arriving in the country from abroad and that from next month travelers will only need to have one negative test (within the last 48 hours) to enter China.
The US is considering a series of new travel restrictions amid concerns over Beijing’s “lack of transparent data” on the course of the new coronavirus pandemic, US officials told Reuters and Bloomberg news agencies.
The concerns of the international community about the outbreaks of the pandemic in China and the complete “lack” of reliable, “transparent data” about them, including “data on the sequencing of the virus genome”, from the side of Beijing, have now become a “mountain”, they explained American officials.
Japan, India and Malaysia have already announced within the last 24 hours that they are taking new measures regarding travelers from China, due to the surge of infections in the Asian giant of 1.41 billion inhabitants.
Tokyo has announced that all travelers arriving from China will be required to be tested for SARS-CoV-2. Kuala Lumpur has announced that it will take new tracking and surveillance measures.
