For those who do not comply with the new rules, the fines will range from 10,000 to 50,000 euros, while the temporary or even permanent confiscation of the ship may be decided

Georgia Meloni’s government has introduced new rules for NGOs working to rescue refugees and migrants. The new “code” for NGOs, which was approved tonight by the cabinet of the government of Rome, allows the passage and stay in the territorial waters of Italy, on the condition that the authorities of the country are immediately notified.

At the same time, as reported by the Italian media, the transfer of refugees and migrants from one ship to another that also belongs to NGOs will no longer be allowed.

NGO ships should immediately request and proceed to a safe port without delay. Otherwise, they will be denied entry into Italian territorial waters.

For those who do not comply with the new rules, the fines will range from 10,000 to 50,000 euros, while the temporary or even permanent confiscation of the ship may be decided.
