Akar on extension of territorial waters: “A wrong step will cause serious problems”

“We do not accept the increase of territorial waters beyond 6 miles. We expect that this will be understood”, stressed the Turkish Defense Minister in a strong tone.

There is strong concern in Turkey about the possibility of the extension of Greece’s territorial waters to 12 miles, through Crete.

As SKAI correspondent Manolis Kostidis broadcasts from Istanbul, the Turkish Minister of Defense, Hulusi Akar, stated that Ankara does not accept the increase of territorial waters beyond 6 miles. And he warned that “one wrong step on this issue will cause serious problems”

“We do not accept the increase of territorial waters beyond 6 miles. We hope this will be understood.

In 1995, a related work was done in the Parliament, everyone should know this, it should be well understood. Everyone should know that a wrong step in this matter will cause serious problems. Remember, we tell our neighbor that the wrong bill will return from Ankara.

Athens is taking steps to provoke. The islands are being militarized, we have to take measures” said Akar.
