The NATO secretary general said that “there is no indication that President Putin has changed his overall objective of the war,” which is “to control Ukraine.”
Heavy attack against Ukraine launched by the NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, claiming that Vladimir Putin has not abandoned his plans to “control Ukraine”.
In an interview with the German News Agency (dpa), Stoltenberg specifically said that “there is no indication that President Putin has changed his overall goal of the war,” which is “to control Ukraine.”
Russia had mobilized “a lot of new troops” and “showed a willingness to endure painful casualties,” he said.
“Nothing is over. Wars are unpredictable, but we have to prepare for the long term and for new Russian attacks. We should not underestimate Russiahe underlined.
The head of NATO called on the allies to provide Ukraine further military assistance “to convince President Putin that he will not achieve his goal of taking control of Ukraine.”
“It may sound paradoxical, but military support to Ukraine is the fastest way to peace. We know that most wars end at the negotiating table – probably this war too – but we know that what Ukraine can achieve in these negotiations depends inextricably on the military situation.
Therefore, if you want a peaceful, negotiated solution that ensures that Ukraine prevails as an independent democratic state, the best way to achieve this is to provide Ukraine with military assistance,” said the NATO Secretary-General.
Also responding to a question about whether the West should equip Ukraine with medium-range missiles, Mr Stoltenberg said there was ongoing dialogue between the allies and Kiev about this and stressed the “huge” need for ammunition and spare parts for all weapon systems.
