Security sources spoke of a “terrorist attack”, the first in three years in an Egyptian city outside the Sinai Peninsula, where jihadist groups operate.
Two armed men came from two cars that approached the police station and started shooting with automatic weapons at the policemen, killing three of them. An officer is among the four injured.
Other officers responded by opening fire and killing one of the attackers. The second was injured, but managed to escape.
