After a fireworks display outside the Freedom City mall in the southern part of Kampala, “there was a stampede, which resulted in the immediate death of 5 people and the injury of many others,” police spokesman Luke Owesigire said in a statement.
“Rescuers arrived at the scene and took the injured to the hospital, where a total of 9 people were confirmed dead,” he added.
