About 170 members of the armed forces of the Russian Federation were killed in the fighting for control of the bombed city last Saturday, said Serhii Tserevaty, a spokesman for the eastern command of the Ukrainian army.

The Ukrainian army claimed on Sunday evening that it had inflicted heavy losses on Russian forces in Bakhmut, the small town in eastern Ukraine that has been the scene of fierce hostilities for months.

About 170 members of the armed forces of the Russian Federation were killed in the fighting for control of the bombed city last Saturday, said Serhii Tserevaty, a spokesman for the eastern command of the Ukrainian army.

He added that the city had turned into a “death production line” for the Russian army and added that more than 200 other Russians were injured.

Moscow has not commented.

It is impossible to independently verify the accounts given by the officers of the warring sides in the armed conflict, which is now in its eleventh month.

The battle for Bahamut has been going on for months despite having more symbolic than strategic value.
