Viking Orion, registered in 2018 and featuring nine decks, a spa, a theater, a huge sports hall and a swimming pool, departed on December 23 from Auckland
Passengers on a New Year’s luxury cruise around New Zealand and Australia have been stranded in international waters for more than a week due to an overabundance of micro-organisms, algae, marine organisms and tiny animals in the hull of the Viking Orion cruise ship, which they could be dangerous to the ecosystem.
According to the Australian government, divers undertook the clean-up of the build-up of biofoul on its hull Viking Oriona 930-seat cruise ship, while it remained anchored in international waters, to protect Australian waters from potentially dangerous marine organisms.
The Viking Orionwhich was registered in 2018 and includes nine decks, a spa, a theater, a huge sports area and a swimming pool, departed on December 23 from Auckland, New Zealand, but has not called in a port since sailing from Wellington on December 26.
The cruise ship remains anchored off Adelaide in international waters and the company says it is in contact with passengers regarding compensation for the canceled cruise.
