European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed her wholehearted support and best wishes for 2023 to the Ukrainian people in her first phone call of the year with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“The EU stands by you, as long as it takes. We support your heroic struggle. A fight for freedom and against brutal aggression”, said the President of the Commission according to her post on Twitter.

In the first phone call of the year with Ukrainian President @ZelenskyyUa, I conveyed my wholehearted support and best wishes for 2023 to the Ukrainian people. The EU stands by you, as long as it takes. We support your heroic struggle. A fight for freedom and against brutal aggression.

For his part, the Ukrainian president thanked the EU for its support and expressed his joy at starting the year by talking with Ursula von der Leyen.

He said that the 1st tranche of EU aid to the Ukrainian people is expected, namely the 1st batch of LED lamps, school buses, generators and modular houses.

“Coordinated steps at the Summit. We feel supported and we will win together,” Volodymyr Zelensky said indicatively in his own post on twitter.
